Baker Mayfield to start Sunday vs. Pittsburgh

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield has been named the starter for Sunday vs. the Steelers, returning from an injury that sidelined him against the Broncos
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has been announced as the starter for the big AFC North clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Mayfield had missed the Thursday Night Football primetime win over the Denver Broncos due to a re-aggravation of his Torn Labrum shoulder injury, which included a fracture, in a blowout loss to the Arizona Cardinals the week prior.
His return could be a positive as the Browns look to bounce back from a messy start to the season, but how limited Mayfield will be in the game remains to be seen.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed the news about Mayfield on Friday, stating: “Medically, he’s ready to go. Baker feels that he’s ready and ready to help this team win.”
Mayfield was poor against the Cardinals before getting hurt again, and didn’t look to be too hindered by the ailment in that game or against the Chargers, when he was excellent throwing the ball.
This coming weekend is a huge game for both teams in terms of momentum, as they try to catch up to their other two division rivals off to hot starts, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens.
Mayfield’s services would be welcome if he is at full strength, but there’s no way to tell. He was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, which could be a positive considering where reports were at last week. This game will serve as a measurement of where he’s at, but it might not be the best time to do so.
Still, Stefanski was surely a part of this decision, and if the staff think Mayfield is up to the challenge they’re to be trusted.
