Cleveland Browns player who won’t return No. 1: Odell Beckham

Three years is long enough to make a decision. Isn’t it?

Odell Beckham, Jr. was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019 after a successful career with the New York Giants. One of the most electrifying wideouts in the entire NFL, OBJ brought a ton of expectations with him as fans salivated at the idea of Baker Mayfield dialing up the long ball to No. 13.

Unfortunately, they spent much of that season wondering why the offense wasn’t working. Beckham finished with 1,035 yards that season but had just four touchdowns and really never seemed to get into a consistent groove.

Then again, the entire offense was hard to watch under Freddie Kitchens, so this was forgiven and hopes were high once again heading into the 2020 season. However, things were even worse between OBJ and Mayfield.

He had just 23 receptions for 319 yards and three touchdowns in six games before suffering a torn ACL in their seventh contest. Making matters worse, the offense seemed to click as soon as he was out of the lineup.

This year, it’s been more of the same. Beckham and Mayfield are still not on the same page and it seems as though No. 6 is better when he targets anyone other than OBJ.

There’s no reason to assign blame, and it doesn’t matter even if we could say whose fault it is. What’s important is being able to acknowledge this isn’t working.

Cleveland will likely do that this offseason and Beckham could be done with the Browns.
