2022 Cleveland Browns mock draft: Wide receiver help is primary focus
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns have a mess at wide receiver which is why they focus on the position in our latest 2022 seven-round mock draft
It’s been a tough start to the 2021 season for the Cleveland Browns and things only got worse as the NFL trade deadline approached. While they ended up making no moves, they were all over the media due to a push to get Odell Beckham, Jr. out of town.
Moving forward, things are going to be different for this team at wide receiver — and were going to be even without the campaign to free OBJ. The truth is, this wide receiving corps made far too much money to struggle as they have this year.
That’s why wide receiver is a popular pick in our latest 2022 NFL Mock Draft as they add a couple of new pass-catchers to continue to build around Baker Mayfield.
Cleveland Browns Round 1 pick: Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas
With their first pick in this mock, the Browns find themselves taking one of the best — and biggest — wideouts in the class. Treylon Burks from Arkansas is a 6-foot-3. 225-pound wideout with 122 receptions for 2,012 yards and 14 touchdowns. Most of this damage, including the 14 touchdowns, have all come in the past two seasons.
Burks has the ability to line up all over the field and has been especially successful in the slot. He would be a chess piece for Kevin Stefanski that’s capable of beating zone coverage but also can test press coverage deep thanks to his speed.
He should have no problem adapting to a role with the Browns while giving Baker Mayfield a young weapon that can help him take his next step.
