2022 Cleveland Browns mock draft: Wide receiver help is primary focus
By Randy Gurzi
Cleveland Browns Round 5 pick: Obinna Eze, OT, TCU
Another position where the Browns have been dealing with a rash of injuries is offensive tackle. Both Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin have missed time, and Conklin could be gone for quite a while. They also lost Chris Hubbard, eliminating one of their top reserves.
Blake Hance is doing well and there’s still hope James Hudson can improve but they need more bodies, which is why they go with Obinna Eze with their fifth-round pick. He could develop into a solid swing tackle with a chance to fight for a starting job down the road.
Cleveland Browns Round 6 pick: Xavier Thomas, EDGE, Clemson
Jadeveon Clowney and Takk McKinley have played well this season, but they’re also on a one-year deal. It wouldn’t be crazy to see either return but the Browns could also try and add more competition.
In this mock, they do that with the selection of Xavier Thomas from Clemson. A high recruit who has not hit his full ceiling, Thomas is enjoying his best season in 2021 and could be molded into a solid rotational pass rusher.
Cleveland Browns Round 7 pick: Damone Clark, LB, LSU
The linebacking corps is improved this season but like everywhere else, injuries have been a major concern. Both Jacob Phillips and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah are out and they need to keep bringing in players who can fill in.
That’s why the final pick in this mock is Damone Clark. You can never go wrong throwing darts at an LSU linebacker this late.
