Cleveland Browns Takeaway No. 1: Greg Newsome another CB1 opposite Denzel Ward

While it may be too early to be releasing such a bold statement, the Browns first-round pick in this year’s rookie class has done nothing but impress us week after week.

The Bengals wide receiver room is no joke. Starting with stud rookie Ja’Marr Chase, to Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins, they have solid names in their trio. That said, the Browns defensive backs made them look like just another receiving core, shutting them down on Sunday.

Denzel Ward single-handedly made a huge impact in this game with the pick-6, but Greg Newsome was all over the field as well.

One of Newsomes’ most impressive plays so far this season for me came last week against the Steelers when he tackled Diontae Johnson after he caught the slant on third down in the open field to prevent them from getting the first down and ending the game. On Sunday, Newsome had another very impressive play, going toe to toe with Chase on a deep ball and batting it down for an incompletion.

Newsome had a few nice pass breakups in this game as well, following around the rookie stud in Chase for a lot of this game.

Testing these young corners early in their career is a positive, regardless of the outcome. When they answer time and time again in their rookie season as Newsome has done to date, it does nothing but gets you more and more excited for what’s to come as the time goes on and they learn more and develop.
