Cleveland Browns Extension Target No. 2 – Jadeveon Clowney, Defensive End

The cornerbacks played lights out Sunday, but their jobs were made substantially easier because of how good the defensive front was. Not only was Myles Garrett terrorizing Joe Burrow yesterday, but Jadeveon Clowney also continues to be dominant.

I know he didn’t have a blowout stat line, but he continues to get pressure and is elite at sitting the edge in the run game. Perhaps the biggest hit of the day came from Clowney early in the game as Burrow was trying to escape the pocket. It didn’t end in a sack, but there was no doubt he had the attention of the young quarterback.

Clowney will likely come at a price, but I think the Browns have a shot at getting him at a good value for both sides. Clowney has likely learned from his last two spots he can’t hold down the fort as the number one option, but he is fantastic as the number two guy.

Why wouldn’t he take $15 million for the next two years and get to play alongside one of the best rushers in the league? Not only would he be signing with a likely contender, but he would also be getting a ton of one on one options that just won’t be there if he signs somewhere else for more money.

I will never hate a guy for taking more money. The NFL is a league where nothing is promised, but I also think Clowney finally feels at home. There were a lot of question marks when Berry finalized this deal, but I would be a huge supporter of finalizing an extension with Clowney.
