Cleveland Browns Extension Target No. 1 – Wyatt Teller, Offensive Guard

Editors note: Since writing, but before publication, Teller has been given an extension. Still, read below for the prophetic reasoning behind Teller deserving a big payday.

A position that will be extremely interesting the next few years is the offensive line, especially the interior part of the group. J.C. Tretter is under contract through 2022, but he could easily be a cap casualty this offseason, especially with Nick Harris looking like the next potential center on the roster.

Joel Bitonio is also under contract through 2022 and has zero dead money on his $10 million cap hit for 2022. I believe Tretter will be the cap casualty, but if Berry wants to make some splashy moves elsewhere, Bitonio could be a guy to move on from as well. A perfect scenario for the Browns, move on from Tretter and extend Bitonio for another year bringing down his cap hit (assuming he takes a hometown discount).

But the future of the Browns offensive line should be centered around Wyatt Teller. This guy continues to be the best pulling guard in the NFL and has shown he can stand up to any pass rusher in the league. Teller is in the last year of his deal and is currently making just over $2 million in 2021.

Just give this guy a contract already. He may demand $12 plus million a year which is a ton for a guard, but he is the perfect fit for the zone scheme Kevin Stefanski wants to run. Having a well-paid guard is a huge luxury, but Teller has earned it.

If I was Berry, I’d push to get this done before there becomes a bidding war for his services this offseason.
