Cleveland Browns dud: Kevin Stefanski and the coaching staff

The Cleveland Browns got outcoached in every phase of the game by one of the greatest coaches to ever walk the sidelines on Sunday. New England coach Bill Belichick proved why he’s a first-ballot Hall of Fame coach against the Browns, as he was three steps ahead of Browns coach Kevin Stefanski and the rest of his coaching staff.

Stefanski continually called plays that were safe and appeared obvious to the Patriots, as they had an answer for anything that was thrown at them. Once the game started to get out of reach, and it turned into a must-pass situation for the Browns to find a way back into the game, Belichick’s defense really took over and shut down Cleveland’s offense.

As for the rest of the Browns coaching staff, they too fell short of having this team prepared and called bad play after bad play. Defensive coordinator Joe Woods’ defense did not have a good day, making rookie quarterback Mac Jones look like a veteran on Sunday afternoon.

Some of the blame falls on the players for a lack of execution, but the majority of it should fall squarely on Stefanski, Woods, and the rest of the coaching staff. Their inability to call quality plays allowed the game to get out of hand far too quickly, while their reluctance to make adjustments as the game went on ensured the humiliating defeat.

Too many more games with this poor of a coaching effort, and the Browns season will be over well before their goal of reaching the Super Bowl in February.
