Cleveland Browns reaction: Baker Mayfield struggles again
The Browns quarterback again struggled, especially late in this game against the Lions. The first half was a decent half for Mayfield but he still missed several throws to wide-open receivers and also made a horrible throw that was picked off by the Detroit defense.
It didn’t result in any points for the Lions but it set the tone for a very inconsistent Browns offense. He then threw his second interception in the fourth quarter that added insult to injury. The Lions took the three points and cut the Cleveland lead to 13-10 with just nine minutes left in the game. The Cleveland defense, however, bailed out their offensive mates the rest of the way.
Mayfield did enough on the Browns two first half scoring drives including nice passes to tight ends David Njoku and Austin Hooper and got the team down near the end zone. From there, wide receiver Jarvis Landry took a direct snap from center and sprinted for the score from 16 yards out.
On the Browns second scoring drive the Browns moved the football well again. Mayfield connected with Hooper again for a 20-yard pass and finally got Rashard Higgins involved in the game for a 18-yard completion. The drive ended in a nice pass from Mayfield to Chubb for the five-yard score. Mayfield finished the game going 15 for 29 for 176 yards, the Chubb touchdown throw and those two interceptions.
