Colin Cowherd suggests the Cleveland Browns front office has already decided the fate of Baker Mayfield, they just don’t want fans to know.

There has always been a feud between Colin Cowherd and Baker Mayfield, but Cowherd may be right when he said the Cleveland Browns already making their decision on Mayfield’s future with the organization.

He believes that even though the Browns organization hasn’t come out and said they aren’t going to re-sign him; they know they need to move on.

Cowherd goes through a list of reasons why, but the one that stuck out the most to me was the question of respect.

We all think that Mayfield is a locker room leader and has everyone’s respect, but are we certain about that? In the last three weeks, two people have called him out for not being a great NFL quarterback. First, it was Odell Beckham’s father, then last week it was Kareem Hunt’s father taking to social media.

I get it, these were fathers, not players, but it pretty much says the same thing if you really think about it. You didn’t see these things get erased immediately, you didn’t see OBJ quickly come out and defend his quarterback.

Did any of you watch Draft Day? Bo Callahan didn’t get picked because his teammates didn’t go to his birthday party. While it’s a bit of a joke to compare Mayfield to a movie, are there some similarities? Do we see Mayfield on all these commercials and talking to the media and just assume the rest of the locker room has his back without proof?

Cowherd is right, Tom Brady nor Peyton Manning ever had a player call them out to the public. That doesn’t mean things never happened behind closed doors, but players respected them enough to never question them to the media.

Maybe times have just changed and players calling other players and coaches out is the new normal, but man, that recipe never seems to work.

I think Cowherd is also right that the Cleveland Browns have made up their minds, and it may be one of the best-kept secrets in the league that Mayfield won’t get an extension.
