Baker Mayfield will be on the Cleveland Browns roster in 2022 because of his fifth-year option but these 3 guys could be brought in to provide competition.

As the Cleveland Browns head into the 2021 bye week, it’s beginning to look less and less likely that the team can make the playoffs for the second straight season. After making the postseason in 2020 and getting their first victory since 1994, aspirations were high around the city of Cleveland with a lot of big additions to the defense.

Grant Delpit was finally healthy, Troy Hill and John Johnson were brought in to strengthen the secondary, Anthony Walker was brought in to improve the linebackers, and Jadeveon Clowney was signed to pair with Myles Garrett. The defense has been okay at times, but nothing like what fans thought it would be.

There were zero changes on the offense to start the season. Odell Beckham was back healthy, and an offensive line and running back room that was dominant in 2020 returned unchanged. Since then, OBJ has forced his release, multiple starters have been placed on injured reserved, and Baker Mayfield continues to struggle at quarterback.

What’s sad, if you just win the Chargers and Steelers game (which they should have), the team is 8-4 and still in the playoff run. Now, at 6-6 and quality of play in a downward spiral, I’m hoping they can get another two to three wins this year.

One of the biggest changes you may see next season, a veteran quarterback brought in to give Mayfield some competition. Case Keenum is that guy right now, but with such a big salary, the Cleveland Browns may look to move on from him.

Honestly, why would they keep him at that price? If they were ever going to play him, it should be now when Mayfield is so beat up.

Below are three quarterback options that could be brought in to “inspire” Mayfield in 2022.
