3. Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku

I have always been a guy who was kind of puzzled by the Austin Hooper signing the last offseason.  I know Kevin Stefanski loves to get tight end involved, but David Njoku continues to be the best tight end on the roster.

Not only does he have the athleticism and ability to catch difficult passes, he has worked extremely hard to become a better interior blocker which is also important in the Stefanski offense.

Njoku’s best season came in 2019 when he had 639 receiving yards and four touchdowns, but I would argue he has been completely underutilized in the offense. If Hooper had a contract that was easier to get out of, I would be in favor of finding an out for him and featuring Njoku.

Right now, Njoku is playing on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, and I’m not certain he is in the “budget” for the 2022 roster. There’s no doubt he is one of the better players on the roster but does the analytical regime of the Cleveland Browns value the tight end position?

Time will tell, but with a limited wide receiver room and a banged-up Baker Mayfield, Njoku is the most explosive pass-catching threat the Browns have at the moment.
