Happy Festivus! Cleveland Browns edition
Cleveland Browns Festivus Miracles
The biggest miracle for the Browns this year, and depending on who you ask it might be a hindrance, but the fact that Baker Mayfield is still playing is a miracle in and of itself.
Back in Week 2, Mayfield threw an interception that would change the direction of not only his season but also that of the team. Up to that point, Mayfield was playing some stellar football dating back to last year and through the playoffs and Week 1 against the Chiefs.
On that interception, Mayfield attempted to make the tackle and ended up popping his shoulder out of place. A week later, he tore his labrum, yet only missed one game because of it. Later in the season, Mayfield fractured his humerus bone in the same shoulder.
Most players would have opted to go under the knife and be out for the season or a great portion, but not Mayfield. Instead, he decided to play through the pain as he couldn’t damage the shoulder further. However, he did suffer injuries to his foot, knee, and groin.
He kept on playing, outside of Week 15, when he was sidelined after being placed on the Reserve/Covid-19 list. You can question his play, but what you cannot question is his physical or mental toughness.
Another miracle is the fact that this team is 7-7 and still in the playoff hunt, despite going through a myriad of injuries. Every position has been affected at some point this season, so the fact that this team can still make the playoffs, an uphill battle for sure, is simply miraculous.
