The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including a new name being added at kicker

As has been the case for years, the Cleveland Browns are having issues at kicker. Early in the season, it looked as though Chase McLaughlin was going to be the answer but then he started to have some issues.

McLaughlin is now just 15-of-21 on field goals with a miss in each of his past five games. He was out in Week 16 after being placed on the COVID-19 list and Chris Naggar filled in. The former practice squad kicker hit a 37-yard field goal but was just 1-of-2 on extra points.

Now, they’re bringing in more competition as Cleveland announced they were signing Chris Blewitt to their practice squad. McLaughlin could be back on Monday against the Steelers but the team will have some options in case he’s not cleared — or in case they want to move in a different direction.

Browns sign kicker Chris Blewitt to practice squad, place QB Nick Mullens on COVID-19 list — Nate Ulrich, Akron Beacon-Journal

"“Searching for a solution in their kicking game, the Browns announced Wednesday they signed Chris Blewitt to the practice squad. They also placed third-string quarterback Nick Mullens on the practice squad/COVID-19 list.”"

Blewitt hasn’t kicked much in the NFL and Cleveland might not have a ton of confidence in him based on his record. He played in two games for Washington this season and was 2-of-5 on field-goal attempts — although he did nail a 52-yarder.

Baker Mayfield’s wife Emily posts that Browns’ quarterback received death threats via social media after loss to Packers — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“Baker Mayfield’s wife, Emily, revealed on her Instagram story Tuesday that her husband received death threats after the Browns’ 24-22 loss to the Packers — on Christmas Day.”"

Any fan who thinks it’s okay to send death threats really needs to examine themselves. There’s no reason to ever make it personal when criticizing a player and no matter how hard it is to watch your favorite team lose, there are lines that should never be crossed.
