4 Cleveland Browns who could be playing in their final game with franchise
By Greg Newland
The Cleveland Browns head into Week 18 with nothing to play for but make sure you cherish the game as these four guys could be playing in their last.
In the final week of the 2020 season, the Cleveland Browns traveled to Pittsburgh with everything on the line. They had to win the game to make the playoffs and they did just that. Then they went to Pittsburgh the next week and beat them again in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
Fast forward to 2021, and the last two weeks of the regular were meaningless and now Baker Mayfield is being shut down to have surgery. There are 100 different reasons why the season went south, and you can bet there will be debates all offseason on who the issue was.
The Browns had a ton of normal injuries, suffered from an outbreak of COVID19, and had a ton of locker room drama with the Odell Beckham fiasco. Not to mention the third-place schedule they drew ended up being much tougher than originally anticipated.
It’s easy to point fingers, but the fact is, there are multiple guys with major roles on the team who will be playing in their last game for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, here is a list of four.
4. Cleveland Browns LB Mack Wilson
Mack Wilson continues to be a puzzling guy. After being selected in the fifth round of the 2018 draft, he had a nice rookie season, struggled to return from injuries in 2020, and just hasn’t played much in 2021. He was excused last week for personal reasons which is never a great sign.
I don’t dislike Wilson, but he just never developed any further after his rookie year. It’s almost as if he overthinks every play and that makes his reaction time very slow. It’s not a huge savings to release Wilson before 2022, but with Anthony Walker, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Jacob Phillips, and Sione Takitaki, I just don’t see a spot for him on the roster next season.
