Cleveland Browns Offensive Grade

No matter who you ask, or who you blame, there is no denying that this offense underachieved and then some this season, which cost the Browns a shot at the playoffs for a second consecutive season. Instead, the Browns offense played a rather meaningless game, but the unit executed well, something that was missing all season.

Cleveland boasts one of the best running rooms in the NFL and that was no different against the Bengals. The Browns rumbled for 205 yards on the ground, which should be of no surprise to anyone. D’Ernest Johnson led the charge with 123 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown.

He put together quite the season in relief of Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb. He has definitely done enough to earn himself a nice payday in the offseason, whether it be back in Cleveland or elsewhere.

Speaking of Chubb, he only got nine carries in the season finale, but he did rush for 55 yards and displayed one of his vicious stiff arms. He didn’t play much in the middle two quarters but randomly came back in to bust off a big run that eventually led to a Demetric Felton touchdown scamper.

In what very well could be his final game as a member of the Browns, Jarvis Landry reeled in six passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. If that was the end, what a way to go out. The issue with Landry has never been about his play, heart, or leadership, but instead his contract. I would love to see Landry back, but only if he restructures his contract, which would then give the Browns more options on what to do in the offseason.

Case Keenum got the start under center with Baker Mayfield and filled in just as he was needed. He completed 17-of-24 passes for 176 yards, a touchdown, interception, and a lost fumbled that Cincy returned for a touchdown. That could very well be the last game that Keenum plays as a member of the Browns as well.

The offense finished the regular season piling up 376 total yards, 24 first downs, and a six-of-12 third-down conversion rate. In a year that the offense was a disaster overall, they showed out in the final game of the 2021 season.

Grade: B-
