Los Angeles Chargers kicker Dustin Hopkins (6) kicks a field goal in the fourth quarter during a Week 13 NFL football game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021, at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. The Los Angeles Chargers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 41-22. /

Cleveland Browns kicker option No. 4: Dustin Hopkins

We go from one Los Angeles kicker to the other. Dustin Hopkins is 31-years old and turns 32 in October, so this wouldn’t be a bad fit. For the past six-plus years, Hopkins called Washington home, kicking for the Football Team. He was initially drafted in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Bills, but injuries prevented him from playing. The next season he was signed to the Saints practice squad and was signed to a future/reserve contract. He signed with Washington in September of 2015.

In his time in the Nation’s capital, Hopkins converted on 163 out of 194 field goals (84 percent) and nailed 179-0f-190 extra points (94 percent). Hopkins was released by Washington in October and signed with the Chargers.

In 11 games with the Chargers this season, he knocked in 18-of-20 field goals and 30-of-32 extra points. Ironically enough, it was a field goal that knocked the Chargers out of the players after they failed to go with the not-agreed-upon-but-agreed-upon-plan with the Raiders.

Cleveland Browns kicker option No. 3: Joey Slye

Joey Slye took over for Dustin Hopkins in Washington after the latter was released and kicked in six games. He also had stops in Houston and San Francisco for three games each. In 12 games played this season, Slye made 23-of-25 tries with a long of 56, tying a career-high.

For his short career, the 25-year old has a field goal percentage of 82.8 percent (77/93) and an extra point percentage of 88 (82/93). Slye is a young guy with a big leg, as he has hit several field goals from 56 yards.

Could he find a permanent home in Cleveland? He at least has to come in for a tryout, right? Time will ultimately tell.
