Cleveland Browns position to upgrade No. 3 – Defensive End

Other than quarterback, there is no more important of a position on the NFL field than defensive end. Not only can these guys make a quarterback’s day a nightmare with pressure, but they also have the ability to stop a lot of the gadget plays from happening around the edge.

The Cleveland Browns had a strong room of defensive ends in 2021, but Jadeveon Clowney and Takk McKinley are both free agents. Truthfully, I would love to see the team keep both, but I’m not sure that will be an option.

Expect Berry to be aggressive with Clowney. He had his best season in years with the team and has really formed a bond with Garrett. However, money talks, and a desperate team could back a truck of money up to his front door. Berry will be aggressive, but not stupid when it comes to free agency.

Should a guy like George Karlaftis from Purdue fall to No. 13, it could be hard for the Browns to pass up, especially if they are unable to bring back Clowney or McKinley. However, with a good pro-day, I’m not sure I am seeing him drop.

The issue with drafting an edge this year, there are three elite guys, and then two late first-rounders that will be available. Unless one of those three elite guys is around at No. 13 (which seems unlikely), you’ll likely see a trade-back scenario if this is the position of focus for the Browns.
