Cleveland Browns Round 2 pick: John Metchie III, Wide Receiver, Alabama

The Browns didn’t draft a wide receiver in the first round, but with the depth of the wide receiver position in the 2022 NFL Draft and the numerous other holes in the roster to fill, there’s not a need to rush the selection of that position. In the middle of the second round, the Browns take a proven playmaker at wide receiver in John Metchie III from Alabama.

While Metchie is coming off of a knee injury that he suffered in the SEC Championship Game, he should be ready in time for the 2022 season and able to make an immediate impact on a wide receiver corp that needs an immediate influx of talent.

Metchie is a great route-runner who proved he’s a great talent the last two seasons, catching over 150 passes for 2,000 yards since 2020. He’s also a dynamic playmaker that can make plays after the catch, making guys miss on his way to big plays.

With the uncertainty at the wide receiver position for the Browns going forward, as well as the inconsistencies of the players currently on the roster, adding a proven playmaker like Metchie is a no-brainer for Cleveland.

Cleveland Browns Round 3 pick: Christian Harris, Linebacker, Alabama

In the third round, the Browns look back at the defensive side of the ball and take another player from Nick Saban’s system in linebacker Christian Harris. Harris is an athletic player on the defensive side of the ball that can play many different positions because of his size, but most likely is best in space covering tight ends or running backs, having proven that as a strong point during his days at Alabama.

General manager Andrew Berry and the Browns have shown that they’re pretty well okay with signing free agent linebackers to one-year deals and not drafting linebackers with premium picks. However, they did select linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koromoah in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and with a player like Harris available in the third round, this could be a place where they look to get another defender for the middle of the defense on a cheap rookie deal.
