3 free agents eliminated in Divisional Round Cleveland Browns should target
Cleveland Browns Free-agent option no. 1 – De’Vondre Campbell, LB, Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers have another target that should be more affordable for the Cleveland Browns to acquire in free agency, in linebacker De’Vondre Campbell. Campbell had his best season as a pro in Green Bay this year, finishing the year with over 100 solo tackles, two interceptions, and two sacks. Campbell really proved he can be a do-everything linebacker this year for the Packers.
It’s been proven that Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry and his staff don’t want to invest heavy money into the linebacker position, having instead opted to plug and play guys on team-friendly contracts at those positions instead. While the team did draft linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koromoah in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, that came more because of versatility to play multiple positions and because he fell in the draft, after being assumed to be a first-round pick leading up to the draft.
Adding Campbell to the linebacker rotation would be an immediate boost to the unit. While he isn’t necessarily great at any one thing, he has improved every year since becoming a pro, and would be an upgrade to the linebacker unit to Cleveland. As long as the contract doesn’t break the bank, Campbell could be a sneaky good signing for the Browns in free agency this offseason.
