Best odds to be the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback in 2022

Potential Cleveland Browns Quarterback No. 2 – Mitchell Trubisky
One move that hasn’t been talked about much in my opinion, is the thought of signing Mitchell Trubisky this offseason. The Mentor, OH native took a year off as the Bills backup but has a proven track record in the NFL.
The interesting thing about Trubisky is you could sign him and still keep Baker Mayfield. That creates a level of competition that can be good and bad all at the same time. While it may motivate Mayfield to perform, it could also cause him to force things even more.
Trubisky was run out of Chicago after going 25-13 as the starter his last three seasons. His stats weren’t fantastic, and the defense did a lot for those teams. However, he was extremely efficient with the football and didn’t make a ton of mistakes.
I think Trubisky is a fantastic fit, and I like the idea of him being the backup in 2022. If Mayfield plays great, it’s a one-year deal and he moves on again in 2023. If Mayfield struggles again, you give him a shot and see if he is the long-term solution.
His athleticism is a great fit for the Stefanski system, and after a year of setting and learning, he has likely made huge leaps as a player. I don’t have this listed as my No. 1 likely scenario, but I think it’s my favorite option at the moment.
