Cleveland Browns Free Agent Option No. 1 – Jabrill Peppers

Looking back, the Cleveland Browns getting rid of Jabrill Peppers as a part of the Odell Beckham, Jr. trade was one of the biggest mistakes over the last few years. The Browns actually drafted Peppers in the first round of the 2017 draft, and he was part of the memorable 0-16 season.

Peppers really struggled as a rookie. Remember, he played linebacker, safety, wide receiver, and running back in college, so he needed some time to find out where he fits best. As a rookie, he was a little too big to play safety but didn’t stand a chance at linebacker.

2018 was a different year for Peppers. Not only was he a solid return man, he really started playing well on defense. The Browns started bringing him closer to the line of scrimmage, and he started making some big plays.

I’m not sure the fit is perfect to have both him and Delpit on the roster, but I think both are talented enough to make things work. The great thing about snagging a guy like Peppers is the defense could play three safeties almost every single snap. Neither Delpit nor Peppers are considered elite cover safeties, but there is certainly room for improvement with both. And Peppers would at least excel near the line of scrimmage.
