The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including a look at the possibility of adding Jimmy Garoppolo

Every offseason is long but the 2022 offseason will be especially long for the Cleveland Browns. Not only do they need to figure out how to bounce back from an 8-9 campaign, but they also have to ask some tough questions about their quarterback.

Baker Mayfield showed off his talent in 2020 but 2021 was a tough season for him, due in large part to injuries. However, the fact remains he’s entering year five and has not proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he’s the guy.

For that reason, there will be discussions had about other available quarterbacks, one of which is Jimmy Garoppolo currently of the San Francisco 49ers. Garoppolo is likely to be traded this offseason and one writer is asking if Cleveland should consider making the move.

That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

San Francisco 49ers plan to trade Jimmy Garoppolo; will the Cleveland Browns have interest? — Ben Axelrod, WKYC

"“While some might debate whether using assets to acquire Garoppolo would help Berry accomplish just that, there’s also enough evidence that it would likely merit a conversation. In 2021, the eighth-year veteran ranked higher than Mayfield — in most cases, by a wide margin — in a number of advanced statistical categories, including QBR, DVOA, EPA and EPA + CPOE composite.”"

What Axelrod is referring to Berry accomplishing is building a team to compete for a championship. Everyone can knock Garoppolo for some of his bad throws but he was close to making it to the Super Bowl for a second time. This isn’t saying he’s an upgrade but if the front office really wants to leave no stone unturned, they should at least give this some thought.

Cleveland newspaper trolls Ben Roethlisberger retirement with perfect headline — Jared Mueller, Browns Wire

"“Dan Labbe of The Plain Dealer did a great job trolling Roethlisberger for the one time he faced the Browns in the playoffs. The 2020 playoff victory by Cleveland looked as if it could be the final nail in Big Ben’s professional coffin but he came back for one more season.”"

Labbe’s headline read “Longtime Steelers QB, winless vs. Browns in playoffs, retires.” Well played Dan, well played.

Cleveland would surely prefer to keep Jadeveon Clowney but he played so well in 2021 that he could price himself out of town. If so, these five players could step in and fill the void.
