The John Dorsey era in Cleveland brought in a ton of talent. There were also a lot of mistakes that can be corrected in 2022 by the new Cleveland Browns regime.

Two things occurred for the Cleveland Browns during the John Dorsey era of being the general manager from late 2017 until late 2019. His tenure was almost exactly two years. On one side, he added a ton of talent to this roster fans have never seen before. He spent big in free agency and wasn’t afraid of making a big trade.  He brought in guys like Sheldon Richardson, Jarvis Landry, and Odell Beckham.

However, he was also not the most responsible guy in the world when it came to the salary cap. There was a fair amount of overspending and a lot of risky signings that never paid off. The prime example here was the Antonio Callaway experiment. A guy with a ton of talent that could never stay out of trouble and eventually fizzled out.

One thing that can’t be denied, Dorsey had an eye for talent. He just wasn’t the best at managing the entire puzzle. Perhaps his biggest mistake during his tenure and what ultimately cost him his job was the hiring of Freddie Kitchens.

Dorsey was so worried about having full control of the roster and team, he opted for an inexperienced coach he could control vs. finding someone with the experience that this team needed.

It all worked out as Andrew Berry would finally take over as general manager and make a great hire in Kevin Stefanski, but a whole season was basically waisted because of Dorsey being so power-hungry.

So, as we head into the 2022 free agency period, let’s review three of Dorsey’s biggest mistakes that could be undone this offseason if Berry chooses to bring guys back.
