Cleveland Browns: 3 trade targets from New Orleans Saints in 2022 offseason
By Randy Gurzi
The New Orleans Saints will have a new coach and need to make moves to get under the salary cap, which means the Cleveland Browns should call about these 3 players
Whenever teams change out their head coaches, they usually have a lot of roster transactions that follow as the new guy in charge wants to shape his 53-man roster to his specifications. With Sean Payton retiring with the New Orleans Saints, that could happen with them and if so, the Cleveland Browns should see which players they’re willing to part with.
And in New Orleans, they will likely be willing to move on from some talented players since they’re an estimated $75 million over the cap according to OverTheCap.com.
With that being the case, here are three players general manager Andrew Berry should kick the tires on during the 2022 offseason — and as a note, we will skip on Michael Thomas who would help at wide receiver, but should be ignored right now since he counts for nearly $25 million and has appeared in just seven games in the past two years.
Cleveland Browns: New Orleans trade target No. 3: Tanoh Kpassagnon, EDGE
After spending four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, Tanoh Kpassagnon signed with the Saints ahead of the 2021 season to bolster their defensive line. Listed at 6-foot-7 and 289-pounds, Kpassagnon is a powerful presence on the defensive line and can even slide inside on third-down plays.
In 2021, he appeared in eight games as he was hampered by an ankle injury but was very impressive in that time. Kpassagnon finished with 18 tackles, four sacks, and 11 quarterback pressures. He wouldn’t be an upgrade over Jadeveon Clowney but if the Browns are unable to retain the former No. 1 overall pick, he would be a solid fall-back plan.
He could also be a good third defensive end should they retain Clowney to start across from Myles Garrett.
