Baker Mayfield Landing Spot No. 2 – Houston Texans

After going through one of the weirdest coaching searches, the Houston Texans settled on Lovie Smith. As for the roster with the Texans, one thing that was made clear last season was Deshaun Watson would never play for the organization again.

Can a new head coach change that? I honestly don’t know, but I think the writing is on the wall that he will be traded before the start of the season.

I don’t think Berry is a guy that would take a chance on Watson. The guy is a phenomenal player but has a ton of baggage with allegations that are still unclear. Teams don’t even know if he will be eligible to play in 2022, let alone give up the multiple first-round picks that the Texans are asking for currently.

The scenario I see is Watson being traded somewhere (maybe the Eagles or Panthers), and then the Browns sending Baker Mayfield to the Texans. This would be another tryout for Mayfield. If he had success, he may get another deal, but if he fails, he’s looking at free agency in 2023, and not a ton of interest is likely.

If this were to happen, one of the big-name guys would have to be attainable for the Browns. I’m talking about a guy like Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, or Matt Ryan. I still struggle to believe that Berry will give up what it takes to get one of those guys, but he may know it’s now or never on this roster being fully utilized.
