Baker Mayfield replacement No. 3: Malik Willis, Liberty University

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This is certainly true of Malik Willis. He has blazing speed that is reminiscent of Lamar Jackson. But Willis has a bigger frame. So, he is not as elusive or fast as Jackson. But other than that, he is very much like Jackson. One DPD writer thinks the Browns should select Willis.

Malik Willis has some good things going for him. He is very fast. He has a very strong arm. He can throw the ball all over the field. He has seen success at the collegiate level by taking off and making defenses miss. But can that translate into the NFL.

Actually, this style of play is starting to translate.

The weakness on Willis is pretty much everything else. He likes to run. Let me say that again: he likes to run. He needs help with footwork. He has never played under center regularly. He is always looking for the big play either with his strong arm, or with his feet. Needs to learn to take what defenses are giving him.

Willis is a long term project. But he might be one the Browns are willing to take on. Right now, Mayfield is not very athletic. If the Browns choose to swing the pendulum to the extreme and look for an athletic quarterback with great arm strength, then Willis might be the guy.

Any team that drafts Willis will have to have a plan for him. He is not a traditional NFL quarterback. Teams will have to create an offense to fit around his skill set. This alone might deter the Browns. But the next guy on the list would fit the Browns system very well.
