Cleveland Browns Wide Receiver Trade Target No. 1 – Michael Thomas

One guy that doesn’t have a cheap contract but does have all the talent in the world and seems to be unhappy is Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saint. He signed a massive extension that will pay him more than $24.6 million each of the next three years.

With the Saints in rebuilding mode now and even losing their coach, the organization would likely be interested in moving this contract. The issue, is I’m not sure anyone wants that type of cap hit for a wide receiver, no matter how good they are.

Thomas led the league in catches and yards in 2019, but injuries held him back in 2020 and kept him off the field completely in 2021. There are rumors that he stayed off the field to be extremely cautious because of displeasure with the organization.

You can look at it in two ways. One, you’re getting a fresh and rested start, or two, you are getting an injury-prone guy who is forcing his way out of a place. Sounds familiar, right?

The good news though is Thomas may be willing to re-structure his contract in a new situation, and the Saints won’t be able to ask for much in a trade. They are in cap trouble anyway, so just getting rid of his contract would be all they really can ask for at this point.

This seems like a long shot, but if the Saints are desperate enough and the Browns think he will restructure, I wouldn’t be shocked to see it happen.
