Cleveland Browns O-line Overview

One thing that gets lost is how young the Browns are as a team. In 2021, the Browns were the fourth-youngest team in the NFL with an average age of 25.69. However, the offensive line’s average age was 27.6. While that is not old, even by NFL standards, it is the group that will age out the fastest on the team.

If the Browns move on from either Tretter or Conklin, or perhaps both, the Browns will get dramatically younger in the offensive line room. The ability to get younger and cheaper without much of a drop-off is a must if you want to extend your winning window. The Browns have the ability to do that at center but have serious questions to answer at right tackle.

The best way to gauge how the front office feels about the right tackle situation will be through their actions. If Andrew Berry takes a tackle on day two of the draft or pays high-dollar to a free agent, then the writing will be on the wall. However, if they don’t make any significant or drastic moves, then rest assured that they believe they have the answer already in the building.

The good news is, regardless of how it shakes out at center and right tackle, the unit has a solid nucleus with Bitonio, Teller, and Wills. Plus, having one of the greatest offensive line coaches in the history of the game in Bill Callahan gives any player tasked with filling in a huge advantage.

All in all, even with some of the uncertainty the positional group faces this offseason, the Browns are still in a good position to be one of the top units in the league.
