Cleveland Browns Target No. 2: Larry Ogunjobi, DT

This name should sound familiar since Larry Ogunjobi was a third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns back in 2017. He then spent four seasons with Cleveland and most would consider his time with a team “up and down” in terms of performance.

In all, he had solid numbers with 180 tackles, 14.5 sacks (11 of which came in 2018 and 2019), and two forced fumbles. However, the Browns did him no favors during his tenure with the team.

In 2018, Ogunjobi really began to come into his own and had 52 tackles with 5.5 sacks while playing the 3-tech. But then, John Dorsey decided to get more star power and added Sheldon Richardson, moving Ogunjobi to the 1-tech.

He still had good numbers but his strength has always been in generating pressure — not stuffing the run as he was asked to do in this role. Unsurprisingly, he wasn’t as good even though his numbers were still fine. In the same role in 2020, he again struggled and that led to him walking away in free agency this year.

Ogunjobi joined the Cincinnati Bengals where he had 49 tackles and a personal-best seven sacks. He was injured in the playoffs, so he didn’t get to play in the Super Bowl and now hits the open market.

Cleveland needs help on their line now with Malik McDowell likely done in the league and Malik Jackson finishing up a one-year deal. Perhaps adding Ogunjobi back to the roster — and playing him in his natural position — could be a solution.
