Cleveland Browns combine player to watch No. 2 – Jake Ferguson, Tight End, Wisconsin

Another position of interest for the Cleveland Browns in 2022 will be tight end. The team will likely be without either David Njoku or Austin Hooper moving forward. The hope is to re-sign Njoku and cut Hooper, but only time will tell how the cards ultimately fall.

Jake Ferguson of Wisconsin is an interesting later-round prospect at tight end. He has good size at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, but he has not proven himself as an elite blocker yet, which the Browns would want at this position.

What I like about Ferguson, he is an elite ball catcher and has great athleticism for the zone blocking scheme. He comes from a football family and is a guy that will work harder than anyone else on the field.

Remember, Njoku was a below-average blocker when he came into the league and has substantially improved. I don’t see Ferguson ever making the splash plays like Njoku, but he certainly will have the ability to be a receiving threat at the next level.

Should Ferguson fall to the third or fourth round, he would be a great project player for the Browns.  He would have the ability to play some snaps, but not be forced to be a major contributor which can really help with development.
