Amari Cooper is likely going to hit the open market and Zac Jackson of The Athletic says the Cleveland Browns have shown interest if he does become available

While one of our own thought the Cleveland Browns wouldn’t be interested in Amari Cooper due to a potentially high price tag, Zac Jackson of The Athletic is apparently saying otherwise.

News broke early on Friday that the Dallas Cowboys are likely to release the seven-year pro as they look to get back under the salary cap.

Cleveland has a need at the position and is apparently showing interest in Cooper as well as Allen Robinson, Chris Godwin, and Mike Williams.

Cleveland entered 2021 with Odell Beckham, Jr; and Jarvis Landry as their top wide receivers but things went south in a hurry. Beckham never was able to click with quarterback Baker Mayfield and eventually forced his way out.

As for Landry, he had the worst statistical season of his career and also seems to be on the way out. That means the Browns are in desperate need of a wide receiver and while they’re expected to go for a rookie at No. 13 overall, it would also be advisable for them to land a veteran as well.

Cleveland Browns could be swinging big for a wide receiver

If Jackson’s report is correct, Cleveland isn’t content with getting just any wideout, but they are targeting some big fish. Robinson, Godwin, Williams, and Amari Cooper are all legit No. 1 wideouts and potential All-Pro players. They also don’t have the reputation that OBJ came to the Browns with — and Cooper is an especially quiet person.

He’s also likely the best fit in this group. Head coach Kevin Stefanski runs a system that excels with precise route-runners who can stretch the field and that’s exactly what Cooper brings to the table.

If Cleveland really wants to get an accurate gauge on Mayfield, adding someone such as Cooper will help them do exactly that.
