Cleveland Browns Free Agent Option No. 3 – Danny Shelton, Defensive Tackle

The Cleveland Browns had one signing on day one that was a defensive tackle but don’t think they are anywhere close to being done. This was a huge disappointment last year, and Berry will likely add at least one more piece to this group in free agency.

Taven is a know interior pass-rusher. Truthfully, he is an awful run defender which limits his ability to be on the field. Why not pair that with a guy like Danny Shelton who is a massive run stuffer that clogs up a lot of holes.

Once again, a first-round pick that didn’t fair the way anyone expected. Unfortunately, this was a bad pick by the Browns in 2015, but he could be exactly what the team needs.

This would be another one-year agreement likely in the $1-3 million dollar range and gives Shelton a chance to prove he can play in the league and gives the Browns a guy who can play against the run on the interior defensive line.

Given Shelton’s past, he likely doesn’t have a ton of interest. Andrew Berry could likely go after a slightly bigger name early, but at the end of the day, I see Shelton being the perfect answer.

I know Berry and Paul DePodesta get frustrated when people use the word analytics, but I’m going to anyway. Analytics don’t justify spending big money at defensive tackle. So, landing a guy like Shelton is the best outcome.
