Daily Dawg Tags: Baker Mayfield won’t be in Deshaun Watson trade offer
By Randy Gurzi
The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including a story about Baker Mayfield not being in the Deshaun Watson trade offer
Tuesday was an interesting day for Cleveland Browns fans. After much discussion about whether or not Cleveland would be in on Deshaun Watson, the front office decided to head out to Houston and meet with him despite recently giving verbal support for Baker Mayfield.
Of course, none of us should be surprised. This happens often in football — like when the Arizona Cardinals swore Josh Rosen was their guy right before taking Kyler Murray in the draft. Teams have always supported their guys up until they are no longer their guys.
Having said all that, the latest report surrounding the trade suggests that the Browns will not be including Mayfield in any package for Watson, but he still could be on the way out no matter what.
That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.
Cleveland Browns News
"“Baker Mayfield won’t be headed back home to Texas as part of the trade offer for Deshaun Watson, but he could be dealt even if the trade doesn’t happen.”"
We all know Mayfield plays with a lot of emotion but could that go against him and the Browns if this trade falls through? These are things the front office has surely already asked themselves and they will either be doing some serious damage control with Mayfield or moving on should this deal not work as they hope.
"“Today came news of the NFL announcing all of the compensatory picks that will be given out for this year’s draft. Among them is Cleveland being assigned the 99th selection. That pick is granted to the team after the Minnesota Vikings hired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as their next general manager.”"
The Browns end up with a top-100 pick simply because the Vikings hired an intelligent person to run their team. Sounds like a win to me.
JC Tretter departure paves way for Nick Harris
Cleveland released starting center J.C. Tretter, and one of the main reasons has to be the play of Nick Harrs. The former Washington product held his own when filling in for Tretter last season and prove he could get it down while saving them a lot of money against the cap.
Browns meeting with Deshaun Watson could have ripple effect
Even if Cleveland doesn’t end up with Deshaun Watson, the simple fact that they met with him could lead to big changes in Berea.
