Just one day after adding Deshaun Watson, the Cleveland Browns made two moves that will improve their No. 2 quarterback spot in 2022

Emotions are still being sorted through as Cleveland Browns fans are processing what the addition of Deshaun Watson means for the franchise.

While that’s happening, the front office has remained behind the scenes. They have yet to comment on the Watson addition but it could be due to them still putting in the work.

On Saturday, just one day after adding Watson, they traded away Case Keenum and signed Jacoby Brisset — which significantly upgrades the situation behind Watson.

First, it was announced that Cleveland was landing a seventh-round pick in exchange for Keenum, who will be joining the Buffalo Bills. He will be replacing Mitchell Trubisky as the reserve behind Josh Allen.  With him out, Cleveland needed a new backup and it was just mere minutes before it was announced that Jacoby Brissett was going to fill that role this season.

Cleveland knew they needed an experienced starter behind Watson, who could be facing a suspension this season. While Keenum was 2-0 for them in relief of Baker Mayfield last season, he was making too much money for a team that just paid Watson $230 million and really was more of a game-manager than someone who was winning on his own.

Jacoby Brissett gives Cleveland Browns a starting-caliber backup

As for Brissett, he will come in at a more affordable rate than Keenum but he also has plenty of experience as a starter. In six seasons, Brissett has started 37 games while appearing in 60. He has a record of just 14-23 but is 9-11 in his last 20 starts.

He also boasts a decent touchdown-to-interception ratio of 36-to-17 and brings another element to the game with his legs. Brissett has 653 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns in his career and while he’s not as dangerous with his legs as Watson, he’s better than Keenum in this area which means the Browns can keep their offense gameplan the same no matter which player is starting.

Cleveland is still needing to move Baker Mayfield but one thing is for sure. This quarterback room was clearly not something this front office was happy with as they are in the midst of a complete overhaul.
