5 Cleveland Browns free agents still looking for new homes

Cleveland Browns free agent No. 2: DE, Jadeveon Clowney
Probably an even bigger catch in free agency than Landry right now for the Browns is to try and re-sign defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who had a breakout season and a resurgence of his career. There had been a lot of chatter of Clowney returning to the Browns a week ago, after the Watson trade, but to this point, there hasn’t been anything officially saying he was returning to the team. Clowney wants a big payday after the Browns paid him $8 million a year ago.
Clowney was a teammate of Watson when they both played for the Houston Texans. It’ll be interesting to see if there is any more movement in striking up a new deal with Clowney. He’s coming off a career season where he recorded nine sacks on the quarterback and seemed to really enjoy his time with the Browns.
Other teams like the Dallas Cowboys or Los Angeles Rams could be willing to dish out a big deal if the Browns can’t recruit him back. Stay tuned.
Cleveland Browns free agent No. 3: C, J.C Tretter
J.C. Tretter was recently cut by the Browns to again save on cap space. He had been a steady presence along the offensive line, usually playing center for Cleveland but now he can sign with another team. There have been various reports of teams like the Minnesota Vikings, or the Baltimore Ravens interested in bringing him to their teams.
The Vikings might make the most sense as former Cleveland Browns vice president Kwesi Adofo-Mensah just became the new general manager in Minnesota. The Cowboys are always seemingly rumored to bring in every free agent out there, but they have also been linked to Tretter.
Tretter was an outstanding starting center for the Browns over the past five seasons. He always started and never missed a game or a snap on offense. He only was called for 13 holding penalties and two false starts in his five seasons.
For comparison’s sake, Browns current offensive lineman Jedrick Wills has already had four holding calls and had 11 false starts. Cleveland will miss Tretter and will need to find a suitable replacement. That will be hard to do considering his consistency over the previous years.
