It’s April Fools’ Day, and Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku wins the day.

In case, for whatever reason, the days are blurring together a bit, and one didn’t realize, it’s April Fools’ Day, folks. I wish that for many of us, that this weather was a joke too, but as those of us in Ohio know, this weather ain’t no joke. Ever.

Anyway, while the Cleveland Browns have had quite the offseason already, another key element to their free agency/crucial offseason period was that the team ended up placing the franchise tag on tight end David Njoku, which was a smart move. Njoku has had inconsistencies with the Browns, some because of injury, some due to perhaps up-and-down play at times.

Regardless, Njoku has still made his presence felt on plenty of occasions, and no matter what happens with quarterback Baker Mayfield, it was evident that Mayfield and Njoku had a nice rapport in their seasons together. That’s when Njoku was in there, that is.

Nonetheless, there have been times in his tenure with Cleveland that Njoku has been a player mentioned in trade rumors, and before, Njoku did reportedly request to be traded, and then walked back on that. He didn’t end up being dealt, and things seem to be great between him and the Browns now, which is refreshing, fortunately.

That being said, it was funny to see Njoku, given the prior rumors and trade request, play right into the April Fools’ Day bit for some laughs.

He then followed that up with this tweet of a great Seinfeld gif.

It was April Fools after all, and with how things are now with Njoku and Cleveland, and at least from an on-floor standpoint with the trade acquisition of Deshaun Watson, it was hilarious to see NFL Network reporter/insider Ian Rapoport get duped by Njoku. He deleted his original quote tweet in response to that, as FanSided’s Braulio Perez touched on; even still, this was great.

One can’t help but LOL at Njoku’s April Fools’ Day tweet, as a Browns fan.

Njoku assuredly got others than Rapoport among the Browns fan base with that tweet, and while a number of fans were probably ready to get their virtual pitchforks out at Njoku again, he was obviously just being facetious. Either way, it should warrant his share of laughs from fans of the Orange and Brown, and the NFL in general.

That was a solid April Fool’s Day bit from the Cleveland tight end, who could very well be in line for a breakout campaign in 2022 alongside Watson, new trade acquisition Amari Cooper and company.

In 2020 with Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant’s arrivals, Njoku had only 19 catches for 213 yards in 13 games and just 29 targets. He was more involved seemingly in 2021, though, and was a bright spot when given the opportunities for Cleveland through the air, and had 36 catches for 475 yards, to go with four touchdowns. He had a career-best 13.2 yards per reception, too.

The 6-foot-4 Njoku, when healthy and regularly given chances to make things in happen, has been a player that can be a favorable matchup for the Browns, and now with Hooper no longer around, we could see him have a career year in 2022.

And thankfully, Njoku and the Cleveland Browns are in talks about a contract extension, as DPD’s Randy Gurzi relayed and Rapoport reported on Friday (for real), that could get done before next season.

Next. 3 dark clouds left to address this offseason. dark

Needless to say, the talented pass-catcher, headed into his sixth season, is in Cleveland for the long haul it seems, but his April Fools’ tweet was LOL good. That was elite content from the tight end, who turns 26 in July.
