Baker Mayfield has literally nothing to gain in podcast appearance

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is set to appear on a podcast in people are assuming will be a chance to tell his side of the story. But what does he hope to accomplish?

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield will appear on the NYK: you know what I mean? podcast. This appearance will break his self-imposed social media silence since the end of the season. But what does Mayfield hope to accomplish?

Let’s think this through for a second. What is there to accomplish? Nothing.

If he’s looking to reform his image, he can do that by simply leaving Cleveland via trade. The national media already thinks the Browns are a joke. Leaving with dignity would simply make the Browns look bad and Baker the good guy.

Is he looking to get his piece of flesh in the media? Let’s hope not. He has not been traded yet. Does he really want to follow the road of former Browns head coach Hue Jackson and former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel? Does he really want to call the Browns out as clowns in the media?

Baker Mayfield will gain nothing, like other former Browns who went this route

What would that gain?

It would simply signal to other teams that he will go on the “throw your team under the bus” tour as soon as he gets upset. That’s not the way to secure a job in the NFL. Like it or not, an NFL quarterback has to be excellent both on and off the field. Off the field means staying away from drama. Manziel and Jackson are both a lot of drama.

They are both no longer in the NFL.

Baker and the Browns are getting divorced. But not all divorces are failed relationships. Sometimes, two parties need each other for a certain time to accomplish certain things. If they were accomplished, the relationship was a success.

Baker was exactly what the Browns and their fans needed at the exact time it was needed. He helped to revitalize the Browns fanbase. He made winning happen again in Cleveland. He even led the team to a playoff victory over the hated Pittsburgh Steelers. The relationship was successful.

But now it is over. It is time to move on. In the immortal words of Motley Crue, “Baker don’t go away mad. Baker just go away”. Ok, maybe that’s not exactly what they said. But it fits.

Let’s hope Baker is not going to talk about work on the podcast. The most refreshing part of Emily Mayfield’s response is that she called it “work”. It is work to a professional athlete. This gives me some hope that Baker is ready to move on. That he is ready to be a professional.

Baker is a good quarterback. He has a lot of talent. He has a contagious personality. He needs to be in the right place. Right now, Cleveland is not the right place.

3 draft scenarios. dark. Next

So long Baker.  And thanks! For all the wins.
