The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know including a look at some notable players taken at No. 44 overall in the draft

Following their trade for Deshaun Watson, the Cleveland Browns won’t have a pick in Round 1 for the next three seasons. That means in the 2022 NFL Draft, their first selection will come at No. 44 in Round 2.

It’s the second time in three seasons Cleveland will take a player at this spot — assuming they don’t make a trade — as they landed Grant Delpit at No. 44 in the 2020 NFL Draft.

However, there are several other players who have been taken at this spot in the league’s history. A story looking at the history of this selection and much more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

10 notable players to be picked at No. 44 overall — Anthony Poisal ClevelandBrowns.com

"“2020: S Grant Delpit, BrownsDelpit recovered nicely in 2021 after he missed all his rookie season with a torn Achilles suffered in the previous year’s training camp. He totaled one interception, three pass breakups and 66 tackles last season and was an every-down player in his final four games of the year. The Browns appear poised to give Delpit a bigger role on the defense next season.”"

Other names that were taken at this spot include running back Matt Forte, wide receiver Sidney Rice, and safety Bob Sanders. There have been some talented players to land 44th overall and Cleveland would be thrilled if their selection this season is mentioned in the same breath as these players.

Even a Super Bowl win can’t make Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson a source of civic pride for Cleveland: Maple Buescher, Cleveland.com

“At the moment, we have 22 valid reasons to be suspicious of Watson’s ability to make us proud of him as a representative of our city on the world’s stage. And that should have been reason enough to preclude trading for him and then signing him to a record contract.”

The Cleveland front office knew there would be some very strong opposition to the move they made to bring in Deshaun Watson. They’re likely banking on winning to cure everything but this is a move that will draw criticism no matter how many wins the team has while he’s under center for them.
