Reason Baker Mayfield could be on the 2022 roster No. 2 – Mayfield’s final chance

As hard as it would be for Baker Mayfield to swallow his pride and not only be a part of this team in 2022, but contribute, he may quickly figure out that it is his last chance before likely sitting out a year and not even getting a chance to prove he is healthy.

Facts are facts right now, and the Browns aren’t going to be motivated to pay Mayfield to not be on their team. Why would they pay him $18.9 million when it saves them absolutely nothing to move on from him? He may not be happy, but if he feels the need to retire like Carson Palmer, more power to him.

If he can just put grow up for a season and not play the victim, things could work out great for him. Remember, he would likely get the chance to start up to six games early in the season and then the Browns may be willing to trade him.

Good play and/or injuries around the league could finally motivate someone to just take on the salary for the remainder of the season. Remember, the Browns would love to have his cap number back, but they aren’t desperate for the money because of the structure in Watson’s deal.

Again, it won’t be easy, but Mayfield getting one more chance with a healthy shoulder to prove he is a starting-caliber quarterback in the NFL could be good for him and the Browns.
