Best player at pick 44 no. 1 – Grant Delpit, Cleveland Browns

Okay, okay, call me a homer, but you can argue the Cleveland Browns getting Grant Delpit at pick No. 44 in the 2020 draft was a huge steal. And while we only have one year of data to look at, he started to show at the end of 2021 that he may be ready to flourish in 2022.

As a senior at LSU, Delpit has a high ankle sprain that really slowed him down. He chose to return to college and won a national title doing so, but had he entered the 2019 draft, he would have easily gone in the top-20 picks.

So, the Browns got a discount because of the injury in his final year of college, and then he ruptured his Achilles in camp before the 2020 season. Durability is certainly still a question mark, but his stat line of 66 tackles, an interception, and a sack is truly from his rookie year.

The Joe Woods defense that I have yet to fall in love with is built specifically for a guy that has Delpit’s skillset. With three safeties on the field and two linebackers, Delpit has the ability to move around the field and be a real issue for opposing quarterbacks.

You must have the toughness to tackle a running back, but the speed and quickness to cover a wide receiver in this defense, and Delpit can do exactly that.
