Baker Mayfield trade proposal No. 1

Seattle Seahawks receive:

  • Baker Mayfield, QB
  • Cleveland Browns 2022 round two pick

Cleveland Browns Receive:

  • DK Metcalf, WR

The Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks both find themselves with lame-duck players in 2022. The difference is, that DK Metcalf’s stock is still extremely high even with one year left on his deal.

It would take a mega-extension to keep him long-term, but he has proven with a strong quarterback he can be an elite wide receiver.

The Seahawks also make sense because they currently are set to start the season with Drew Lock as their quarterback, and I don’t think anyone believes they are sold on that idea.

The biggest reason the Browns would be giving up a second-round pick to get another player with only one year left on his deal is because of the production, and the salary. The fourth and final year on his deal is only for $4.3 million in 2022 so the Seahawks would be increasing their cap hit by more the $14 million in this trade.

Just a few weeks ago I was far more intrigued by this trade scenario, but a couple of factors have slowed me down. One, the money it would take to re-sign him long-term is outrageous. Metcalf is nowhere near as talented as Tyreek Hill or Davante Adams, but I could see him wanting that type of money.

Two, this receiving core in the draft is as strong as ever. The Browns may not have a pick until round two, but I think they can easily get a starting caliber guy at that pick.

With already adding Amari Cooper, they don’t have to be as desperate at the position.
