Deshaun Watson could end up being suspended this coming season and the staff at ESPN believes four games or more will result in the team missing the postseason

High expectations for the Cleveland Browns in 2021 were not met as the team failed to make the postseason despite their strong success in the previous campaign. In an effort to make sure they didn’t keep missing their chance at winning it all, the front office went out and added Deshaun Watson in a massive trade.

The problem is, Watson is facing a league suspension for some serious offseason allegations. And while his civil trial reportedly won’t take place until 2023, we have no word on how the league will handle the accusations of sexual misconduct that Watson faces.

As for their outlook on the season, the staff at ESPN believes this team is much better with the former Houston Texan. However, if Watson is suspended, they believe Cleveland will miss out on the playoffs for the second season in a row.

"“Assuming Watson is not suspended, the Browns are much improved and get back to the postseason after missing the playoffs in 2021. If he is suspended for four or more games, Cleveland will miss the playoffs again.” — ESPN"

This is a rather interesting take since the Browns seem to understand they could be without Watson for part of the season.

Did the Browns do enough behind Deshaun Watson?

In addition to trading for Watson, the Browns signed Jacoby Brissett and Josh Dobbs to be the No. 2 and No. 3 guys on the roster.

Neither will light the world on fire but they both can do some of the things Watson can do and if we’re being honest, this is a really talented quarterback room.

Brissett, a former third-round pick, has had a lot of starts in his career and while his record isn’t great, he’s also never played for a team that had Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, and Amari Cooper.

Even so, those who cover the sport aren’t sold that Brissett will do enough to keep the Browns in playoff contention. However, with three Wild Card spots, this feels like an unfair prediction.

dark. Next. 3 Current Browns you may have forgotten about

Cleveland stayed competitive last year with Case Keenum and Nick Mullens, so surely they can do the same with Brissett and Dobbs — should they have to go that far down the depth chart again.
