Cleveland Browns defensive tackle solution No. 1

Akiem Hicks

There has been a lot of chatter on Browns Twitter of wanting Akiem Hicks to be the new defensive tackle of the team. If Andrew Berry can pull a deal for Hicks off along with re-signing Jadeveon Clowney, the Browns defensive front could be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.

The Browns have reportedly had an interest in signing Hicks, so this could be a match made in heaven for the browns and orange.

The 11-year veteran was drafted in the third round of the NFL Draft back in 2021 by the New Orleans Saints. He was traded to the New England Patriots after three games of the 2015 season. A year later, he signed with the Bears, where he has remained until this year’s free agency.

During his 11-year NFL career, Hicks has totaled 387 tackles (250 solo, 73 for loss), 111 quarterback hits, 40.5 sacks, nine passes defensed, six forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries. In 2021 he recorded 25 tackles, nine quarterback hits, and 3.5 sacks. He spent the majority of his career as an EDGE rusher, before converting to defensive tackle last season.

The biggest concern in signing Hicks would be his recent string of bad luck when it comes to injuries. Since 2019, he has missed 20 games. That’s not ideal for a potential free agent signing. If he can put the injuries in the rearview, this would be yet another stellar signing from Berry.
