Cleveland Browns issue No. 3: Starting DE across from Myles Garrett

Myles Garrett is a stud — there’s no denying that. He enters 2022 already at No. 5 on the Browns All-Time list with 58.5 sacks and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him jump as high as No. 3 this year — he would need 12 to tie Jerry Sherk at third all-time.

In 2021, Garrett wound up with 51 tackles and 16 sacks, both career-high numbers for him. He also had someone on the other side making noise as well with Jadeveon Clowney recording nine sacks on the season.

Having a formidable starter across from him really helped Garrett flourish, just as Garrett helped Clowney put together a huge rebound season following two frustrating campaigns in a row.

Now as we approach the 2022 NFL Draft, the Browns are in a familiar spot as Garrett is the only pass-rusher on the roster who will strike fear into opposing offensive coordinators. Clowney is still sitting on the open market and while they would love him to return, he has yet to accept a proposal from Cleveland.

Chase Winovoch was added in a trade and while he was listed as a linebacker in New England, he will likely line up on the edge for the Browns. Still, he seems better suited for the role Takk McKinley handled in 2021, which was as a situational pass rusher.

The Browns need to add another starter and if it’s not Clowney, they might have to use the 44th pick in the draft since options in free agency are getting thin.
