Cleveland Browns Potential Bust to Avoid No. 3: Myjai Sanders, Defensive End, Cincinnati

After a few nice seasons with the Cincinnati Bearcats, Myjai Sanders is a pass-rushing project that has some folks believing he could go as early as round three in the 2022 NFL draft.

Sanders was a three-year starter for the Bearcats and finished his final season with 40 tackles which included three and a half sacks. He was voted as first-team all AAC and was a real leader throughout the season.

I would argue if he does slide he wouldn’t be a bad fifth-round pickup for the Browns, but I don’t like the pick at all in round three. With the Browns having a big need at the position I just hope they don’t reach on Sanders.

For one, he just isn’t a fit.

At only 255 pounds and 6-foot-5 inches tall, he is going to be a guy that has to convert to a 3-4 linebacker vs. a true defensive end. On top of that, he was down to 228-pounds at the Combine, so he’s already struggling to stay at his playing weight. I think he just gets eaten alive by the strength of NFL tackles.

Two, I have yet to see anything that makes me believe he is elite. Yes, he beat a lot of AAC tackles in games where Cincinnati was ahead by four touchdowns, but I don’t see the physical traits that allow him to transition to the NFL. If he does, it’s going to take some time for him to gain muscle and weight which the Browns don’t have.

Lastly, he jumps offsides far too often.  The Browns already have Myles Garrett who does that enough.
