Reason Baker Mayfield is the best available QB No. 1 – Motivation

I really struggled to put this as number one, but after listening to Mayfield’s latest podcast, any team that trades for him is getting someone that is super motivated. Not only is he coming off an injury, but he’s also out to prove to the world that the Cleveland Browns were absolutely wrong for trading him.

On one side that is great, having someone who is so passionate can be refreshing and can also be contagious at the same time. But it can also cause you to force things which leads to even more mistakes. One could argue the real issues started last year when Mayfield started forcing the issue.

But with a fresh start, a chip on his shoulder, and Mayfield knowing he only has one year to earn his next contract in the league, I argue a team could get a real bargain. We have seen throughout the last four years that Mayfield can play at a high level; we just haven’t seen it consistently.

I do think he would struggle to go to a team like the Panthers, Giants, or Falcons who don’t have a lot of other talents on the roster. But if a team like Washington or Seattle picked him up, I think he could legitimately be the missing piece for a team.

We were all wrong about Justin Herbert a few years ago, but no one was arguing he didn’t belong in the top-10 picks, they just didn’t know where.

Now it feels like a team may be stretching even at pick No. 20 to take a quarterback but will feel like they have to.
