Cleveland Browns Round Two, Pick No. 44 – John Metchie, Alabama

I was originally hoping that the Cleveland Browns could land a little bigger talent at wide receiver with pick No. 44, but I’m honestly not upset if they end up with John Metchie from Alabama.

While he has a lot of strengths, it is worth noting that he will be coming off an ACL injury from the 2021 season and was diagnosed with an enlarged heart during high school. Neither situation may hold him back, but I do think it’s the only reason the Browns will be able to get him in round two.

I like Metchie in Cleveland because of his route running ability. He has a deep route tree and is extremely crisp in and out of cuts which makes him difficult to cover. What he lacks in size he makes up with toughness and the ability to get yards after the catch.

Metchie has been known to drop a ball or two and will need to work harder than ever to make sure he returns to full speed after the ACL tear. The Browns would love to see production from him as a rookie, but also won’t be in a hurry to rush him on the field which could be a huge advantage for him.

I don’t see Metchie as an outside receiver in the NFL, but think he could thrive as the third wide receiver in the slot for the 2022 season and beyond.
