Cleveland Browns Prospect No. 2 still available on Day 3 of NFL Draft: Calvin Austin III, WR, Memphis

The Browns made a smart move in drafting wide receiver David Bell with their No. 99 pick on Friday night in the draft. The team though still could use another wide receiver and drafting one here on Day 3 would make sense. There are several solid receivers still on the board but Calvin Austin III from Memphis would be a good move here by the Browns.

Austin can help stretch the offense with his outstanding speed. He snatched 156 passes in his career and went over 1,000 yards receiving each of the last two seasons. He has a nice 16.3 yards after catch average in his four seasons at Memphis.

He also likes to score touchdowns as he has 21 of them in his last two seasons. The knock on Austin is his size as he stands at only 5’8 but he makes up for it with his electric speed. His route running is crisp as well.

Put him in the slot or let him run a few wheel routes and he could be a huge weapon for Cleveland. He was projected to be drafted in the mid-rounds even as high as the second, so getting him on Day 3 would be a good move by the Browns.

Cleveland Browns Prospect No. 1 still available on Day 3 of NFL Draft: Damone Clark, LB, LSU

The Browns weakest part of the defense has been the linebacker room. They did re-sign Anthony Walker and added Chase Winovich this offseason in a trade. They also drafted their best linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koromoah last season. But adding depth here on Day 3 is important.

Damone Clark from LSU would be a good addition to the team. The Browns have had a recent history of drafting LSU players like safety Grant Delphit so don’t be surprised if Clark’s name is called by Cleveland.

He did recently have surgery to correct a back issue that was discovered and may have delayed him from being selected this draft weekend but he is already recovering and will be ready to go in the NFL, though that could mean holding off a year.

He was a tackling machine at LSU and one of the leaders of the LSU defense. He finished with 135 tackles in his senior campaign and had 5.5 sacks while forcing two fumbles.

The Browns may have to wait a year, but he could be a huge steal at this point.
