Cleveland Browns 2022 Draft Grades – Bad

Full disclosure, Andrew Berry is far more qualified to make picks than I am, but there were a few moves I really struggled with this weekend. After two years of basically no questions, 2022 was slightly different.

Martin Emerson, Cornerback, Mississippi State

It is true that you can’t have enough good cornerbacks on a team, but do you really need to have five? Martin Emerson has a ton of length and is a capable starter, but I’m not sure the guy is even better than A.J. Green who is currently the fourth corner on the team.

This pick along with the trade of Troy Hill really has me puzzled. I’m assuming that the plan is to move one of the current corners to a safety position. That or the organization has fallen deeply in love with Richard LeCounte and his snap count will be up substantially in 2022.

David Bell, Wide Receiver, Purdue

I hope I’m wrong on this one, but I’m really not a fan of the David Bell pick. I understand that he had a ton of production in college, but the measurables and speed are really lacking. I am typically a fan of what you see on the field and not on combine stats, but I feel like it was a real reach for Bell in round three.

Had the Cleveland Browns got him in round four, I would have felt much better. I think he has some potential in the slot, but I am afraid he will have trouble getting open in the NFL.
